Ex-Deputy Interior Minister Released on Bail in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan, Bekmurod Abdullaev, has been released from custody on bail, according to reports from Kun.uz citing its sources.
According to the information, the preventive measure was changed after the accused compensated damages caused to the state, amounting to more than 200 billion soums, paid in cash.
Following the compensation, the court decided to replace detention with a less restrictive preventive measure in the form of bail.
Abdullaev previously served as Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and was dismissed from his post in November last year.
He was later reported to have been detained in connection with a criminal case involving alleged large-scale embezzlement of budget funds during public procurement processes.
At the same time, the case also involves former head of the Department for the Execution of Punishments, Rustam Tursunov, who was also removed from his position during the same period.
According to sources, Tursunov remains in custody and investigative actions in his case are ongoing.
