Tashkent Sets Fee Caps for Vehicle Towing and Storage

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Tashkent City Khokim Shavkat Umurzakov has approved maximum rates for vehicle towing and impound lot storage. The new tariffs are intended to make the system more transparent and eliminate unreasonable charges.

According to the Traffic Management Center, the decision was made as part of efforts to create a safe and orderly urban environment, in which sidewalks and pedestrian zones must remain clear for pedestrians.

Under the approved rules, the cost of towing and transporting a vehicle using specialized transport is capped at 20 percent of the basic estimation value (BEV) per kilometer. The fee for storing a vehicle at an impound lot is set at 20 percent of the BEV per day.

At the same time, the total cost of towing a vehicle to an impound lot cannot exceed an amount equal to four basic estimation values.

The Traffic Management Center noted that establishing unified maximum tariffs will make the system clearer and more transparent, protect citizens from unjustified payments, and set uniform rules for all participants in the process.

Until now, vehicle towing services in the capital were provided by various private companies, and tariffs were not regulated at the city level.

In early June, Tashkent Khokim Shavkat Umurzakov announced plans to acquire 120 tow trucks for the capital and implement a unified system for towing and storing vehicles whose owners violated traffic rules.

The Traffic Management Center emphasized that vehicles must not create obstacles for pedestrian movement by blocking sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, and other public spaces. Compliance with these requirements is a key component of creating a comfortable urban environment, according to the center.
