Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan has passed in its first reading a draft law aimed at expanding the commercial use of intellectual property, improving the quality of related public services, and broadening the powers of patent attorneys.

The document provides for clearer regulation of legal relations concerning the termination of property rights to intellectual property, as well as reductions in their valuation when used as collateral. In addition, the bill proposes granting patent attorneys the right to represent clients in intellectual property litigation on a contractual basis.

Another initiative under the bill allows applications for intellectual property registration to be submitted through public service centers. According to the developers, this will simplify the registration procedure and make it more accessible to both citizens and business entities.

During the discussion, deputies offered suggestions and comments on specific provisions of the document. Representatives of the bill's sponsors provided clarifications on the points raised.

Following the review, the Legislative Chamber passed the draft law in the first reading.
