Uzbekistan Metro Passenger Traffic Rises 7% in First Half

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan's metro carried 155.6 million passengers in January–June 2026, up 7% from the same period a year earlier, according to the National Statistics Committee.

The agency said the metro transported 286.8 million passengers in 2025. That was 161.1 million more passengers, or nearly 2.3 times higher, than in 2000, when annual ridership stood at 125.7 million.

Passenger traffic declined steadily after 2000, reaching a low of 52.3 million in 2015. Ridership began to recover in 2017, rising from 61.6 million passengers that year to 79.2 million in 2019.

In 2020, metro traffic fell to 38.8 million passengers amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the lifting of pandemic-related restrictions, ridership rebounded to 101.8 million in 2021, 136.7 million in 2022 and 172 million in 2023.

The strongest growth was recorded in 2024, when passenger numbers increased to 270.3 million. Ridership reached a record 286.8 million in 2025, the highest annual figure for the period covered by the statistics.
