Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An deputy head of a district emergency situations department in Jizzakh region has been detained on suspicion of taking a bribe, according to the press service of the State Security Service.

The case involves an official from the emergency situations department of Mirzachul district, who, during an inspection of a public catering facility, identified violations of fire safety regulations and issued an administrative report.

According to investigators, the official then demanded monetary compensation from the café owner in exchange for not suspending the establishment’s operations and not forwarding the materials to court.

The amount requested was 3 million soums.

During a joint operation conducted by the State Security Service and the Department under the General Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect was detained red-handed while receiving the money.

A criminal case has been initiated, and investigative actions are ongoing.
