Russia Drops Criminal Case Against Uzbek Citizen

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Kazan said Russian authorities have terminated criminal proceedings against an Uzbek citizen who was among those involved in a law enforcement raid in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod Region.

According to the diplomatic mission, the outcome was achieved following negotiations with the competent Russian authorities through diplomatic channels.

As a result of cooperation with the representative office of Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nizhny Novgorod, the competent authorities decided not to initiate criminal proceedings against the Uzbek citizen, identified as M. S., under Article 329 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

The necessary procedures are also under way to facilitate the citizen's return to Uzbekistan in accordance with migration legislation. His arrival in Uzbekistan is scheduled for 6 August 2026.

The Consulate General said it will continue to take the necessary consular and legal measures to protect the rights and legitimate interests of Uzbek citizens abroad.
