Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Construction is nearing completion on a waste processing and power generation plant in the Karshi district of the Kashkadarya region. The project is valued at US$150 million and has a capacity to process up to 1,000 tons of household waste per day.

Uzbekistan generates approximately 14 million tons of household waste annually, with around 930,000 tons produced in the Kashkadarya region alone. The project aims to process waste, mitigate its environmental impact, and generate electricity.

The facility is being built using direct foreign investment. Spanning an eight-hectare site, the plant is designed to process about 1,000 tons of waste daily, or roughly 45,000 tons per month.

The project involves generating electricity through the processing and incineration of solid household waste. According to provided data, the facility will have an hourly output capacity of 45,000 kWh, with annual electricity production expected to exceed 240 million kWh.

Modern recycling technologies and advanced filtration systems are being deployed during construction. According to project participants, the technology prevents toxic gas emissions into the atmosphere. A monitoring system is operating on-site, and the regional environmental department monitors smoke stack emissions.

Construction work is currently progressing at an accelerated pace, involving about 30 units of modern equipment and over 300 local and Chinese specialists. Approximately 20 local experts are already working alongside international counterparts to gain experience and operational knowledge.

Over the next five years, plans call for filling 80% to 90% of the plant's positions with local staff. Following the facility's launch, local specialists are scheduled to travel to China for advanced training.

The project consists of four main phases, a significant portion of which has already been completed. Machinery and filtration systems supplied from China have been installed. Measures to prevent groundwater contamination are also integrated into project execution.

The combined cost of this project and a similar facility under construction in the Samarkand region totals US$400 million.
