Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Car sales in Uzbekistan decreased by 3.6% in January–July 2026 compared to the same period last year, while Chinese car brands continued to increase their market share. A total of 210,837 vehicles were sold over the seven-month period, down by 7,940 units from a year earlier, according to the Automobile Business Association of Uzbekistan.
In July, sales reached 31,324 vehicles. The figure grew by 4.7% compared to June, but dropped by 30% relative to July 2025. Negative growth has persisted for the fourth consecutive month.
Against the backdrop of an overall decline in sales, the market structure continues to change. The share of UzAuto Motors shrank over the year from 81.5% to 74.6%, while ADM's share increased from 11.3% to 12.8%.
The growth in ADM's share was driven in particular by Kia, Haval, and Changan. Their market shares increased by 0.7, 0.5, and 0.3 percentage points, respectively. BYD demonstrated the most notable dynamic, nearly doubling its share over the year from 5.6% to 10%.
The combined share of Chinese car brands reached 17.8% at the end of January–July, up from 11.6% in the same period last year.
In July compared to June, the shares of Kia and BYD increased by 1.8 percentage points each, and Haval by 0.4 percentage points. The largest declines in monthly market share were recorded by Chevrolet, down by 3.6 percentage points, and Chery, down by 0.9 percentage points.
At the same time, demand by vehicle type is shifting. Sales of B-segment sedans totaled more than 70 thousand vehicles in the seven months, down from 87 thousand a year earlier. Their market share dropped from 40% to 34%.
Sales of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) also declined. In January–July, 62.8 thousand such vehicles were sold, compared to 69.5 thousand in the same period of 2025, representing a decrease of 9.6%.
Meanwhile, demand for compact SUV-B crossovers is growing. In the first seven months of 2026, sales in this segment reached 47.9 thousand vehicles, up from 37.7 thousand a year earlier. The SUV-B share increased by 5.5 percentage points to 22.7%.
According to estimates by the Automobile Business Association of Uzbekistan, the country's automotive market continues to undergo structural changes, with demand gradually shifting toward higher-priced vehicles.
The association points to the development of financial products in the car market and growing consumer purchasing power as potential factors behind these trends.
