Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A bill aimed at significantly strengthening liability for violence against children and improving the system for protecting them from all forms of violence has been submitted to the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis, the chamber’s press service said.
The bill was initiated by the parliamentary faction of the Adolat Social Democratic Party. It proposes amendments and additions to the Criminal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Code of Administrative Responsibility and a number of other legislative acts.
The issue of strengthening liability for violence against children has been discussed by lawmakers on several occasions. The new bill is aimed at improving legal mechanisms for protecting minors and strengthening liability measures for relevant offenses.
The Council of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has decided to place the document on the agenda of the lower house’s next plenary session. The Committee on the Development of Democratic Institutions and Civil Society has been designated as responsible for reviewing the bill.
The document is scheduled to be considered on 29 September.
