Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will pay a working visit to Astana on 5–6 November at the invitation of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and King Abdullah II of Jordan. The presidential press service announced this on 4 November.
During the visit, Mirziyoyev will take part in a meeting of Central Asian leaders within the framework of the Aqaba Process. The central topic of discussion will be ensuring security in the field of artificial intelligence, including preventing its use for terrorist and extremist purposes.
Participants will also consider ways to strengthen international and regional cooperation in responding to emerging technological challenges and threats.
The Aqaba Process is an international initiative launched in 2015 by Jordan’s King Abdullah II. It aims to strengthen cooperation between countries in combating terrorism and extremism, exchanging experience and coordinating joint security efforts.
The upcoming meeting in Astana reflects the expanding agenda of regional cooperation. Alongside traditional efforts to counter terrorism, increasing attention is being given to risks associated with the development and spread of new technologies.
In particular, the use of artificial intelligence by terrorist and extremist groups presents governments with new challenges in information security, preventing radicalisation and international cooperation.
Uzbekistan’s participation in the meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss approaches to addressing these challenges at regional and international levels.
