Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) has increased the amount of financing for Uzbekistan’s national digital ecosystem Uzum from US$70 million to US$100 million. The additional funds will be used to develop the fintech business and scale up digital financial services.
The initial loan agreement between the EDB and Uzum was signed in May 2026. It was the bank’s first investment in Uzbekistan after the country joined the organisation.
The new financing will allow Uzum to continue developing its fintech infrastructure and expand digital financial services for individuals and small and medium-sized businesses across the country.
According to the company, Uzum Bank became the leader in the growth rate of bank card issuance in 2026. More than half of orders on the Uzum Market marketplace are paid for using the ecosystem’s own financial services.
“Expanding partnerships with industry leaders reflects the EDB’s plans to scale up its operations in Uzbekistan. Digital platforms are one of the key elements of economic infrastructure. By financing their growth, we are not simply supporting a particular company — we are investing in the technological connectivity of the region and the accessibility of financial services for millions of people,” said Sergey Ignatov, Senior Managing Director of the EDB.
Uzum Founder and CEO Jasur Jumaev said the increase in financing demonstrated investors’ confidence in the company’s strategy and performance.
“We are building fintech infrastructure on a national scale that is used by millions of people every day. It is particularly important for us that as Uzum grows, the amount of international capital directed towards Uzbekistan’s digital economy also increases,” he said.
The company noted that the development of cashless payments, digital banking services and high engagement among the young population are creating conditions for further growth in Uzbekistan’s fintech sector and digital economy.
The EDB is a multilateral development bank carrying out investment activities across the Eurasian region. As of the end of June 2026, the bank’s accumulated portfolio comprised 348 projects with total investments of US$22.1 billion.
The bulk of the portfolio is concentrated in transport infrastructure, digital systems, green energy, agriculture, industry and mechanical engineering. Under the EDB Strategy for 2022–2026, the bank is implementing three megaprojects: the “Central Asia Water and Energy Complex”, the “Eurasian Transport Framework” and the “Eurasian Commodity Distribution Network”.
Uzum brings together fintech, e-commerce and banking services for individuals and businesses. According to the data provided, more than 20 million residents of Uzbekistan use the ecosystem’s services every month.
