Bunyod Khasanov Claims Second U17 World Wrestling Title

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbek wrestler Bunyod Khasanov won the gold medal at the U17 World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship in Baku, becoming the first representative of Uzbekistan to win two world titles in this age category.

The 16-year-old athlete, who became world champion last year in the under-48 kg weight category, made a successful debut at the current tournament in a new weight class, under-51 kg. On his path to the title, he won four bouts, finishing three early by technical superiority. The only match that went the full distance ended in a 6-2 victory for him. Over the course of the tournament, Khasanov scored 25 points while allowing his opponents to earn only four.

In the final, the Uzbek wrestler faced Abdurrahman Huseynli of Azerbaijan, a bronze medalist at the previous world championship. Khasanov took the initiative from the opening minutes, forced his opponent to receive a passivity warning, and then executed a scoring back-arch throw. He later widened his lead to close the match with a convincing 9-0 score.

Based on the results of the competition, the national team of Uzbekistan finished fourth in the team standings with 85 points, trailing third-place Iran by 11 points. Team Russia won the tournament, while Team Azerbaijan took second place.

Sadriddin Tulkinboyev secured another medal for Uzbekistan, taking bronze in the under-60 kg weight class. In the third-place bout, he defeated Alexandru Lungu of Romania by a score of 10-2.

World champions in the remaining weight categories included Rylan Wax of the United States (under-45 kg), Amirreza Tahmasbpour of Iran (under-60 kg), Janes Nazaryan of Armenia (under-71 kg), and Tomasz Mital of Poland (under-92 kg).
