Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) launched a partnership on 4 September aimed at strengthening health security in border areas of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
The initiative is intended to improve the effectiveness of both countries’ responses to the needs of residents of border territories and people crossing the border.
The partnership will seek to strengthen interagency cooperation between the two countries, improve epidemiological surveillance systems and enhance information exchange.
Representatives of the health ministries, sanitary and epidemiological services, migration authorities and customs agencies of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan took part in an online meeting dedicated to the launch of the initiative. ADB and IOM experts also participated in the discussions.
The new partnership will support the implementation of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Health Strategy through 2030.
