Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Mining and Geology and the University of Utah discussed expanding cooperation in geology and the mining industry.

The talks were held in Tashkent on 2 October 2026. The meeting was attended by Minister of Mining and Geology Bobir Islamov, ministry representatives and the leadership of UGN. The US delegation was headed by Randy McCrillis, vice president for global engagement and senior university official for international affairs at the University of Utah.

At the beginning of the meeting, representatives of the University of Utah thanked the Uzbek side for the reception and expressed interest in further developing cooperation between the university and Uzbekistan.

One of the main areas of the talks was the development of research activities in geology and mining. Ministry representatives also discussed the need to improve the professional qualifications of industry specialists and implement joint projects related to modern technological fields.

Representatives of the University of Utah, in turn, expressed interest in expanding educational cooperation. In particular, the discussions focused on training highly qualified specialists for the mining industry and developing cooperation in scientific research.

Following the meeting, the sides confirmed their interest in further developing educational, scientific and technological ties.
