Uzbekistan Tightens Rules for Corruption Convicts
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis have approved a draft law that introduces restrictions on the use of parole for individuals convicted of corruption-related crimes. The document has been submitted to the Senate for consideration, according to the press service of the lower house of parliament.
Under the proposed amendments to the Criminal Code, individuals convicted of embezzlement, misappropriation, or fraud will not be eligible for parole if the inflicted damage has not been fully compensated.
Similar restrictions are proposed for those convicted of receiving or giving bribes, as well as mediation in bribery cases. The provision will also apply in cases of repeated offenses, large-scale damage, or dangerous recidivism.
The draft law further envisages stricter liability for crimes involving embezzlement, misappropriation, and fraud committed through abuse of office or misuse of official authority.
