Uzbek Scientists to Join Biodiversity Seminar in Tajikistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — An International Seminar on the Study of Biodiversity will take place in Tajikistan from 16 to 22 August 2026, featuring specialists from Uzbekistan and other countries in the region. Ecologists, botanists, physiologists, and soil scientists from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan will gather at the Kondara Varzob Mountain Botanical Station, according to the Telegram channel of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.

The participation of Uzbek specialists in the international seminar will provide an opportunity to exchange scientific expertise and practical knowledge in the study, conservation, and sustainable use of biological diversity in mountain ecosystems.

Uzbek representatives and their colleagues from other countries will discuss key issues surrounding the conservation of natural resources and the development of scientific cooperation.

The practical portion of the seminar will take place in the Kondara Gorge, one of the most naturally diverse areas in Central Asia, located in the Varzob River basin. The area is home to approximately 1,550 plant species, including 20 strict endemics.

Participants will be able to directly examine the characteristics of local flora and mountain ecosystems.

For Uzbekistan, participation in such international scientific and practical events holds special importance given the country's rich mountain biodiversity.

Exchanging experience with scientists from Central Asian nations supports the development of regional cooperation in environmental protection, flora research, and the rational use of natural resources.

The international seminar is traditionally organized by the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan with the support of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS Member States.
