Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and South Korea have agreed to expand cooperation in higher education, science and academic exchanges.
The new agreements were reached at the first Uzbek-Korean Forum for Interregional Cooperation, held in Seoul on 11 September.
At the forum, Professor Rustam Tojiev, rector of Fergana State Technical University, delivered a report titled “Uzbekistan–Korea: Current State and Prospects.” His presentation highlighted the university’s cooperation with leading higher education institutions in South Korea.
In particular, agreements have been reached with SeoulTech to implement joint projects in artificial intelligence, Smart City, robotics and cybersecurity.
The arrangements also provide for five professors and teachers from South Korea to join Fergana State Technical University, while 10 professors and teachers will be sent to South Korea for internships and two researchers for research internships.
New areas of cooperation with Yonsei University’s Mirae Campus were also discussed. They include student exchanges, launching joint master’s and doctoral programmes, and conducting research.
An initiative was also put forward to establish a Korean Language and Culture Centre at Fergana State Technical University.
The forum also resulted in agreements to establish cooperation with Seongnam Special Industrial Zone, one of South Korea’s major high-tech clusters.
The forum concluded that the agreements reached are aimed at further developing cooperation between Uzbekistan and South Korea in higher education, science and academic exchange.
