Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The second consultative meeting of Central Asian countries on the Aral Sea basin was held in Turkmenistan on 11–12 September.
The two-day dialogue brought together representatives of government bodies, international and regional organisations, as well as experts in water resources, environmental sustainability and water diplomacy.
Participants discussed sustainable water resource management, restoration of natural ecosystems, water security and the development of cross-border cooperation.
Particular attention was given to developing a common regional approach to implementing the UN Special Programme for the Aral Sea Basin and coordinating further joint actions.
Under the Aral Sea Wetlands initiative, Uzbekistan is promoting approaches aimed at restoring ecosystems in the Aral Sea region, ensuring sustainable use of natural resources and supporting sustainable livelihoods for local communities.
Participants also highlighted the need for continued cooperation, stronger trust and joint solutions to ensure the environmental sustainability of the Aral Sea region.
