Uzbekistan, Serbia Establish Strategic Partnership

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Serbia have elevated their bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership. President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic signed a Joint Declaration to this effect following talks in Belgrade.

In the presence of the two presidents, a ceremony was held to exchange bilateral documents covering a wide range of areas.

The sides agreed to cooperate on mobility and labor migration, international road transport of passengers and cargo, and interregional cooperation.

Separate documents provide for the development of partnerships in agriculture and water management, sustainable rural development, customs, renewable energy and green technologies. In the customs sector, the sides also agreed to cooperate and provide mutual assistance.

A document was also signed to establish a working group tasked with preparing for the launch of negotiations on a free trade agreement.

A significant part of the agreements concerns economic and infrastructure cooperation, including support for the Middle Corridor, railway infrastructure and economic diplomacy.

Uzbekistan and Serbia also formalized agreements on cooperation in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, tourism and cultural travel, information and communications technologies, digitalization, e-government and the introduction of modern technologies.

In the humanitarian sphere, the sides signed documents on cooperation in cinematography and joint film production, as well as on cultural cooperation for 2026–2028.

Separate agreements provide for cooperation on occupational safety and health protection, the protection of people with disabilities and support for their position in society, as well as environmental protection.

The list of signed documents concludes with an agreement establishing partnership relations between Uzbekistan’s Samarkand Region and Serbia’s Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.
