Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Construction has begun on an artificial lake and recreation area on a vacant 90-sotix plot in Tashkent’s Uchtepa district, with the project scheduled for completion in December.
The site is located in the 11th quarter of the Kurgantepa mahalla, between state preschools No. 340 and No. 346, the Uchtepa district administration said.
The lake will cover 37 sotix and have a depth of two metres. Abdulla Ardiyev, head of the district administration’s construction department, said the reservoir would be supplied with water from two sources: an irrigation canal running alongside the street and a groundwater well.
Swimming will not be permitted. The lake is primarily intended to improve the local microclimate and reduce dust levels.
The site currently has 66 ornamental trees of various species, all of which will be preserved. Additional trees will also be planted.
Pedestrian paths will be built around the lake, alongside a recreation area with a gazebo, benches and landscaped green spaces. The project is expected to take two months.
Local residents have welcomed the initiative.
“There is dust and noise now, but if we are patient, we will enjoy the results later,” said Umida Tukhtamisheva.
Mehrinisa Tukhtamisheva said older residents who cannot walk long distances would have a place to relax close to home, while children would gain a new place to play.
Vugar Suleymanov described the project as a positive initiative for the mahalla and thanked those behind it.
