New Bridge over Naryn Connects Three Districts to Namangan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Construction of a new bridge over the Naryn River has been completed in Namangan region, connecting the regional capital with the Uychi, Uchqo‘rg‘on and Naryn districts, the press service of the Committee for Roads under the Ministry of Transport said.

The project also included the construction of 17.5 km of new road.

The bridge is 481.5 metres long. According to the committee, it is one of the largest and longest bridges built across the Naryn River in Uzbekistan since independence.

The new bridge is expected to shorten the travel distance to the regional centre by 20 km for residents of the Uchqo‘rg‘on and Naryn districts, said Tokhirjon Orozov, chief engineer of the Namangan regional department of the Committee for Roads.

In addition to reducing travel time and distance, the new transport infrastructure is expected to contribute to an increase in tourist traffic through the Uchqo‘rg‘on and Kensay border customs posts on the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan border.

According to Orozov, the new road will also help reduce the risk of congestion and road accidents in the Uychi and Naryn districts.

Construction was carried out by the Tashkent regional branch of the Uzjulkupirk cluster. More than 100 pieces of equipment and over 50 workers were involved in the project, according to branch deputy director Sodiqjon Khalilov.

The bridge has 20 intermediate supports. The total cost of the project was 62 billion soums.
