Uzbekistan Jails 11,703 People in First Half of 2026

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s courts sentenced 11,703 people to terms of imprisonment in January-June 2026, an increase of 22.3% compared with the same period last year, the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan said.

During the first six months of 2025, courts handed down prison sentences to 9,570 people. This means the number of such convictions increased by 2,133 in the first half of 2026.

Tashkent recorded the highest number of people sentenced to imprisonment during the reporting period, at 2,030.

It was followed by Ferghana Region, where 1,462 people received prison sentences, and Tashkent Region, with 1,452 such convictions.

The lowest number of prison sentences was recorded in Karakalpakstan, at 317. At the same time, only two Tashkent residents were sentenced to life imprisonment during the first six months of the year.

Among those convicted, 179 people were found guilty of intentional murder. Another 1,376 people were sentenced for intentionally causing serious or moderate bodily harm.

Courts convicted 1,789 people of hooliganism.

Drug-related offenses accounted for the largest number among the listed categories, with 5,788 people convicted of such crimes.

The Supreme Court also provided separate figures on corruption-related offenses. From January through June 2026, nearly 3,605 people were convicted of corruption crimes.

Of these, 779 people were sentenced to imprisonment, while 614 received fines. A total of 1,479 people were sentenced to corrective labor, and another 711 received restrictions on their freedom.
