Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Senate of the Oliy Majlis approved at its 20th plenary session a law on the ratification of the Charter of the Clean Energy Centre of the Economic Cooperation Organization, adopted in Ashgabat on 27 November 2021.

The document establishes the legal framework for cooperation among member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization in clean and renewable energy, improving energy efficiency and developing a low-carbon economy.

Under the charter, the Clean Energy Centre is tasked with coordinating cooperation among participating countries and supporting the preparation and implementation of regional projects in renewable energy and energy efficiency. Its responsibilities also include facilitating the mobilisation of international financial and technical resources and the exchange of information and experience in the energy sector.

Ratification of the document will allow Uzbekistan to expand cooperation with other Economic Cooperation Organization member states in green energy. In particular, it will create additional opportunities to implement joint projects and attract international financing, grants and investment.

The document also provides for cooperation in scientific research and specialist training, the introduction of modern technologies and advanced practices. It is also aimed at combining the efforts of regional countries to address climate change.

During the discussion, senators highlighted the importance of the charter for Uzbekistan’s efforts to transition to a green economy, improve energy efficiency and pursue low-carbon development.

The approval of the document is also viewed as a basis for further developing multilateral cooperation in the energy sector within the Economic Cooperation Organization.

Following the review, the law was approved by the senators.
