Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Three minor children of Uzbek citizens serving sentences at correctional facilities in Mordovia and Samara regions of Russia have been returned to Uzbekistan, the press service of Uzbekistan’s Foreign Ministry said.
The children had been staying at a childcare facility at one of the correctional institutions in Mordovia. They included two girls aged four and 2.5 years and a one-year-old boy.
Before the repatriation, Uzbek diplomats confirmed the children’s citizenship, established that they had relatives in Uzbekistan and prepared the necessary documents. The completed materials were submitted to the relevant Russian authorities.
The children’s return was organised by the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Kazan. Diplomats and Interior Ministry officers dispatched from Uzbekistan accompanied them during the journey.
The Foreign Ministry noted that the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Kazan systematically works to return children of Uzbek citizens who are staying in childcare facilities at correctional institutions in Russia.
