Uzbekistan and IPU Discuss New Areas of Cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva met with Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Anda Filip on the sidelines of the 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, according to the Senate of the Oliy Majlis. The parties discussed the current state of cooperation, achieved results, and priority areas for interaction.
Filip praised Uzbekistan's initiatives aimed at developing cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union. Significant results of the country's active participation in international inter-parliamentary dialogue included hosting the Global Forum on Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Bukhara, the Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament in Tashkent, and the Asian Women's Forums in Samarkand and Bukhara.
The 150th anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in Tashkent in April 2025, was highlighted as the organization's first such meeting in Central Asia. During the meeting, the participants emphasized the importance of UN General Assembly resolutions adopted at Uzbekistan's initiative to enhance the role of parliaments in international and global processes, describing them as key elements of the country's parliamentary diplomacy.
The two sides focused on the further development of cooperation within the framework of the new Inter-Parliamentary Union Strategy. The meeting participants exchanged views on strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, expanding the exchange of experience, promoting joint initiatives, and implementing practical projects.
