Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Croatia have agreed to expand cooperation on labour mobility, signing a bilateral document on labour market cooperation following talks between Uzbekistan's Migration Agency Director Mukhsinkhodja Abdurakhmonov and representatives of Croatian government agencies.
The negotiations took place in Zagreb on 15 October 2026. Participants included Ivan Vidish, State Secretary at Croatia's Ministry of Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy, and Ante Loncar, Director of the Croatian Employment Service.
The discussions focused on establishing legal and safe employment opportunities for Uzbek citizens in Croatia through a government-to-government (G2G) cooperation mechanism.
As an initial step, the parties proposed conducting a pilot selection process for 50–100 specialists to work in the construction sector.
They also discussed providing targeted vocational and language training for candidates in line with the requirements of Croatian employers.
Another topic was the possibility of opening a representative office of Uzbekistan's Migration Agency in Croatia. The proposed office could assist Uzbek citizens locally and help protect their labour rights.
The Croatian side views Uzbekistan as a promising partner in the construction sector and expressed interest in expanding cooperation in engineering, medicine and social care.
The signed document establishes a basis for further cooperation between the two countries on employment and the organised recruitment of workers.
