Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Jamshid Kuchkarov met with Hiroki Sekine, Senior Managing Director and Member of the Board of Directors of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), on 8 October.

The sides discussed expanding cooperation and implementing joint projects, the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan said.

The meeting was also attended by Kohei Toyoda, JBIC’s regional head for Europe, the Middle East and Africa; the bank’s representative in Uzbekistan, Botir Mutalov; Yohei Higashida, General Manager of the Energy Project Finance Department; and other JBIC representatives.

During the talks, the sides reviewed further development of mutually beneficial cooperation, expansion of existing initiatives and prospects for implementing new joint projects.

Infrastructure projects implemented under public-private partnership arrangements were among the key issues discussed. In particular, the talks covered initiatives in healthcare and energy.

Particular attention was paid to further expanding the use of renewable energy sources within energy projects.

The sides also discussed opportunities to involve Japanese companies in projects in Uzbekistan, as well as their financing.

Following the meeting, the sides agreed to continue cooperation at a new stage and expand discussions on the development of PPP projects, energy, healthcare, attracting Japanese businesses and financing promising initiatives.
