Uzbekistan Considers New Method for Calculating Child Support

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan is considering changing the procedure for calculating child support payments by removing the direct link between their amount and a parent’s monthly income. Dilnoza Kattakhanova, chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Family and Women, announced the proposal at a plenary Senate session.

According to her, there have been increasing cases in which parents attempt to reduce child support payments by concealing their actual income and formally taking low-paid jobs.

In response, a minimum consumer basket for each age group of children is being proposed. Under the proposed approach, child support payments would be determined based on the consumer basket required by the child rather than solely on the father’s or mother’s salary.

The possibility of transferring certain functions related to the collection of child support payments to the private sector is also being considered. These functions are currently carried out by the Bureau of Compulsory Enforcement.
