Narbaeva Meets Inter-Parliamentary Union Chief
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva met with President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Tulia Ackson in Samarkand, according to the Senate of the Oliy Majlis. The talks took place on the sidelines of the 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians.
Narbaeva noted that regular contact with Ackson contributes to the development of trust-based and fruitful cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The meeting highlighted the growing role of the organization in parliamentary diplomacy during Ackson's tenure as president, as well as her initiatives regarding peace, human rights, gender equality, artificial intelligence, and youth policy.
The two sides paid special attention to cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Inter-Parliamentary Union. In particular, they noted the significance of the organization's 150th Assembly held in Tashkent in 2025. The event, held in Central Asia for the first time, brought together more than 2,000 delegates from nearly 140 countries, including 740 parliamentarians.
The parties also discussed the implementation of the Tashkent Declaration, which calls on parliaments to take practical steps to ensure social development and justice. The 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in Samarkand is viewed as an international platform for dialogue on expanding youth participation in political processes and enhancing their role in decision-making. At the conclusion of the meeting, the sides expressed readiness to continue developing inter-parliamentary ties between Uzbekistan and Tanzania, exchange experience, and expand cooperation within parliamentary diplomacy.
