Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Tashkent is experiencing a seasonal increase in acute respiratory viral infections, with laboratory tests also detecting cases of influenza A, according to the city’s sanitary and epidemiological authorities. No cluster outbreaks have been reported in children’s institutions or among adult workers in the capital.

The epidemiological situation was outlined by Dilfuza Rasulova, head of the epidemiology department at the Tashkent City Department of the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health.

Rasulova said the spread of airborne infections typically increases with the onset of the autumn-winter season.

Current monitoring indicates a seasonal rise in infections, including a slight increase in cases among younger children compared with previous months.

Specialists at the capital’s sanitary and epidemiological institutions monitor the situation daily. According to the virology laboratory of the city department of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Committee, cases of influenza A are currently being recorded.

Rasulova advised people experiencing symptoms of respiratory infections to stay at home and avoid visiting children’s institutions, educational establishments and other organised groups.

Anyone showing symptoms should contact their family doctor and follow the prescribed recommendations, including bed rest.

To reduce the risk of infecting others, patients are advised, where possible, to stay in a separate room and use their own dishes. Medical masks should be worn when necessary.

Regularly airing rooms and cleaning indoor spaces are also important for reducing the concentration of viral particles.

Rasulova also highlighted the importance of vaccination against seasonal influenza. Vaccination is particularly recommended for young children, people over 65, pregnant women and those who frequently fall ill.

According to Rasulova, vaccination helps reduce both the likelihood of infection and the risk of complications.

She urged residents of the capital to take part in the vaccination campaign, noting that influenza vaccines are available at private vaccination centres in Tashkent.
