Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Masturakhon Sayfutdinova, a farmer and entrepreneur from Uzbekistan who heads the agricultural company Quva anori, has been recognised under the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) global initiative “100 Women Heroes in Agrifood Systems and Rural Development”.
The award ceremony took place on 15 October at FAO headquarters in Rome as part of the World Food Forum.
The initiative, launched in connection with the 2026 International Year of the Woman Farmer, recognises the work, leadership and innovative approaches of women making significant contributions to agriculture, agrifood systems and rural development. Sayfutdinova was included in the first group of 100 women to receive the recognition.
Contribution to horticulture development
Sayfutdinova’s work is closely linked to the development of fruit production in Uzbekistan, particularly pomegranate cultivation.
Under her leadership, Quva anori is introducing advanced production methods, expanding its orchards and investing in post-harvest infrastructure. These efforts help reduce losses, maintain product quality and improve access to markets.
Her initiatives strengthen horticultural value chains, create jobs and increase the export potential of Uzbek fruit products. The adoption of climate-resilient agricultural practices also improves the long-term viability of the business.
“As an ordinary woman farmer, I still cannot believe that I am in Rome today, at FAO headquarters. I am sincerely grateful to the FAO for such high recognition of my work. This brings me great joy and is also a powerful incentive to continue working and share my experience with other farmers.
“At this ceremony, I was particularly moved by the recognition of women whose everyday work often goes unnoticed but plays an important role in the lives of their families and rural communities. For us, women farmers, it is very important that the experience of those who work the land, grow produce and create jobs is valued internationally.
“I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for the conditions and opportunities created to develop our work. This recognition places even greater responsibility on me,” Masturakhon Sayfutdinova said.
Work beyond the farm
Sayfutdinova’s contribution extends beyond her business activities. Through publications, farmer training and mentoring, she shares her knowledge and practical experience with other producers, helping them adopt modern agricultural technologies and supporting the development of the sector as a whole.
The FAO recognised Sayfutdinova’s leadership, dedication and practical contribution to strengthening agrifood systems, highlighting in particular her work to improve living conditions in rural communities, preserve natural resources and create opportunities for future generations.
The “100 Women Heroes” initiative brings together women working at different stages of agrifood value chains. Their contributions include expanding market access, preserving traditional knowledge and natural resources, creating jobs and providing learning opportunities in rural communities.
Sayfutdinova’s recognition draws attention to the experience, entrepreneurial potential and leadership of women in Uzbekistan’s agricultural sector.
Her work demonstrates how knowledge, innovation and the exchange of practical experience can help build more efficient, inclusive, resilient and environmentally sustainable agrifood systems.
