Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan's Senate has approved changes to the boundaries of Zarafshan city and Tamdy district in Navoi region, transferring 2,459 hectares of land from the district to the city. The issue was considered at the 19th plenary session of the upper house of parliament.
The move is intended to create conditions for Zarafshan's long-term development, improve the use of the territory's economic potential, attract investment, create new jobs and improve living conditions.
More than 250 industrial and manufacturing projects are planned for the transferred territories. The plans also include 90 social facilities and more than 500 trade, household-service and other service facilities.
The expansion is also linked to Zarafshan's growing need for housing, social facilities and engineering and utility infrastructure amid increasing industrial capacity, population and economic activity.
The inclusion of the new land within the city limits is expected to create opportunities for housing construction and the development of essential infrastructure, including utility facilities, drinking water and electricity supply systems, roads, sewerage and other engineering and communications infrastructure.
The development of the new territories is also expected to create additional employment opportunities, including for young people and those entering the labour market.
Senators speaking at the session stressed the need for the transferred territories to be developed in a comprehensive and planned manner. In their view, incorporating the land into the city should not be limited to an administrative boundary change but should be accompanied by conditions for its full development.
Following the discussion, the Senate adopted the relevant resolution.
