Uzbekistan Plans to End Fines for Lost Passports
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan plans to abolish administrative liability for the loss or damage of passports, ID cards and international passports. Instead of fines, citizens will pay an additional state fee when applying for replacement documents under a presidential decree aimed at improving public services and creating additional conveniences for citizens.
Under the decree, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Justice have been instructed to submit proposals to the Cabinet of Ministers by October 2026 to amend the relevant legislation.
The proposed procedure would allow citizens to obtain a new passport, ID card or international passport in the event of loss or damage without being subject to administrative liability. The relevant ministries have been tasked with preparing the necessary draft legal acts to implement the initiative.
Administrative liability for the loss or damage of passports, ID cards and international passports has been in force since March 2022.
