France defeats Morocco 2-0 to become first 2026 World Cup semifinalist
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The French national football team became the first country to qualify for the semifinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after securing a 2-0 victory over Morocco in their quarterfinal matchup at Boston Stadium.
The reigning World Cup runners-up broke the deadlock in the 60th minute of the match when team captain Kylian Mbappé found the back of the net. Just six minutes later, winger Ousmane Dembélé doubled the lead for Les Bleus, sealing the final 2-0 scoreline.
With this victory, Didier Deschamps' side successfully navigated a rematch of their 2022 semifinal encounter in Qatar, where France also defeated the Atlas Lions by the exact same scoreline.
France will now travel to Texas to play their semifinal fixture on 14 July at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. They are scheduled to face the winner of the quarterfinal clash between Spain and Belgium, which takes place on 10 July.
