Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Japan are discussing plans to expand cooperation in the agricultural sector, including new initiatives and priority areas of interaction, the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan said.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Alisher Shukurov met with representatives from a delegation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to discuss the sector's development. A primary focus of the talks involved attracting new projects supported by preferential loans from the Japanese government under the Official Development Assistance (ODA) Loan framework.

During the meeting, officials discussed modernizing agriculture, introducing advanced technologies, and growing investment cooperation. Key priorities identified for Uzbekistan's agricultural sector include improving production efficiency, managing water resources rationally, expanding the use of modern agrotechnologies, and increasing the competitiveness of agricultural goods.

The sides explored potential applications for Japanese expertise within Uzbekistan's farming sector. Following the meeting, representatives from Uzbekistan and JICA confirmed their readiness to continue strengthening cooperation and jointly implement upcoming agricultural projects.
