Uzbekistan introduces GeneXpert for TB diagnosis

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan has started to introduce GeneXpert system, which allows to diagnosis tuberculosis in two hours and prescribe the most effective medicaments for treatment.

Uzbekistan Today newspaper reported that earlier the country used technologies, which will receive diagnosis results from four to two months.

Pilot introduction of the system has been started at Republican Specialized Scientific-Practical Center for Phthisiology and Pulmonology. Two GeneXpert systems were installed at National Reference Laboratory on TB diagnosis. This is one of the labs in Uzbekistan, which specializes on diagnosis of acute TB forms.

Director of Republican Specialized Scientific-Practical Center for Phthisiology and Pulmonology Mirzogolib Tillyashayhov said that four more GeneXpert systems were purchased and it is planned to distribute them at anti-TB clinics of Tashkent city and region. He added that in the first stage, GeneXpert systems will be used to diagnosis of people with suspicion to poliresistant TB form. This will help to make effective diagnosis and prescribe correct treatment.
