Uzbekistan identifies new growth sectors for regions
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan has identified priority economic growth sectors for each region as part of efforts to increase production, create higher-paying jobs and expand exports. The new growth areas were outlined during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s sixth open dialogue with entrepreneurs in Khiva, presidential press secretary Sherzod Asadov said.
In 2026, Uzbekistan aims to increase gross domestic product to more than US$180 billion and exports to more than US$40 billion.
To achieve these targets, the authorities plan to create conditions for further development of entrepreneurship, increase production of higher-value-added goods, create well-paid jobs and help companies enter new foreign markets.
“We are 40 million people. To further improve the lives of our people, we need to maintain high economic growth rates,” Mirziyoyev said.
In Tashkent, export-oriented businesses have been identified as one of the main areas for development. In Andijan, Ferghana and Namangan regions, priority will be given to textile production and mechanical engineering with full production cycles.
Samarkand, Bukhara and Khorezm regions will develop their own brands in tourism, the creative industries and the agro-industrial sector.
Navoi and Tashkent regions plan to develop long value-added chains in mining and metallurgy and scientific chemistry.
The agro-industrial sector and oil and gas chemicals have been identified as promising areas for Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions.
In Karakalpakstan, green energy, information technology and artificial intelligence have been identified as drivers of economic growth.
Jizzakh and Syrdarya regions plan to develop competitive clusters in automobile manufacturing, electrical engineering and construction materials production.
According to Mirziyoyev, developing these areas should create new opportunities for the population and entrepreneurs within the country.
“Then our people will no longer need to go abroad to earn a living, while entrepreneurs of New Uzbekistan will enter a new stage of development. I am confident that we have enough strength, opportunities and potential for this,” Mirziyoyev said.
