Uzbek universities offer nearly 32,000 vacant places
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan's higher education institutions have opened nearly 32,000 vacant places, giving applicants an additional opportunity to enroll from 22 to 28 August, the press service of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation said.
The opportunity is available to applicants who scored at least 56.7 points but were not recommended for admission to any of the five universities they selected. They can choose vacant places at other higher education institutions and submit an application through the website of the Agency for Assessment of Knowledge and Qualifications.
Available study programs will be determined based on the subjects taken by applicants in the entrance examinations and the language of instruction. Admission to a sixth study option will be available only on a contract basis.
No additional examination will be held. Applicants will be admitted in descending order of their scores.
Competition for university admission increased this year. The average passing score was 134.6 points for state grant-funded places and 93.7 points for contract-based admission, out of a maximum of 189 points. Last year, the corresponding figures were 121.8 and 84.9 points.
At the same time, one in three applicants failed to reach the minimum threshold of 56.7 points in this year's entrance examinations. By comparison, nearly half of applicants failed to meet the minimum threshold in 2023.
The most sought-after universities during this year's admission campaign were Tashkent State University of Economics, the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages and the National University of Uzbekistan. The most popular fields included medicine, economics and philology.
In some study programs, the number of applicants who achieved the maximum score exceeded the number of available places.
