Uzbekistan, Georgia Sign Interior Ministry Cooperation Deal
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 18 April, a meeting was held in Uzbekistan between Minister of Internal Affairs Lieutenant General Aziz Tashpulatov and a delegation from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia led by Minister Gela Geladze, who arrived on an official visit.
The Georgian delegation visited Uzbekistan to participate in a global forum on combating transnational drug threats, held in Samarkand and aimed at strengthening public safety and health.
During the talks, the sides noted the steady development of cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the two countries and emphasized the need to enhance systematic collaboration in combating transnational crime, including organized crime and drug-related offenses.
Special attention was given to expanding information exchange and sharing best practices, as well as developing joint approaches to ensuring public safety.
A key area of cooperation identified was the fight against cybercrime. The sides highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation, including the exchange of knowledge and skills in personnel training and the development of specialized educational programs.
Issues related to counter-terrorism, extremism, human trafficking, and illicit drug trafficking were also discussed. Initiatives were considered for organizing cybersecurity and digital forensics training courses, as well as cooperation between educational institutions of the Uzbek Interior Ministry and Georgian law enforcement structures.
Following the meeting, priority areas for further cooperation were identified in a constructive atmosphere, and a Cooperation Agreement between the interior ministries of the two countries was signed.
During the visit, the Georgian delegation also familiarized itself with the activities of Uzbekistan’s Interior Ministry and its modern technical equipment. Visits to the Interior Ministry Academy and the Tashkent City Police Department are also planned, along with participation in the international forum in Samarkand, which will serve as a platform for experience sharing and developing solutions to modern security threats.
