Seven Women Jailed for Five Days After Mass Fight in Andijan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A court in Andijan has sentenced seven women to five days of administrative detention following a mass fight in the courtyard of an apartment building, the press service of the Andijan Regional Department of Internal Affairs said.

According to the department, police received a report at around 12:30 p.m. on 30 July about a conflict involving a group of women.

Officers who arrived at the scene found that the participants had grossly disturbed public order by engaging in a loud altercation that disrupted the peace of local residents.

The women were taken to a local police station for administrative procedures. According to the department, some of them continued the confrontation, refused to comply with lawful police orders and exchanged insults while at the station.

A preliminary inquiry found that the conflict had been triggered by mutual insults exchanged on Instagram.

The authorities concluded that the women's actions constituted administrative offences under Article 183 of Uzbekistan's Code of Administrative Responsibility (petty hooliganism) and Article 194 (failure to comply with the lawful demands of law enforcement officers).

The court found all seven women guilty and sentenced each of them to five days of administrative detention.
