Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has chaired a meeting on preparations for major international events in Bukhara. Discussions focused on urban infrastructure, transport links, public safety and expanding economic cooperation with foreign partners.

The president stressed that the upcoming events should not only showcase Bukhara’s historical heritage and modern potential but also contribute to the region’s socio-economic development. He said preparations should cover not only event venues but also transport, services, security systems and urban infrastructure.

Ministries and agencies were instructed to prepare a substantive agenda for talks with foreign partners, present the results of ongoing reforms and develop new joint initiatives.

Particular attention was paid to security. The meeting reviewed plans to establish modern situation centres, introduce digital technologies to monitor public spaces and tourist sites, manage traffic and combat cybercrime. The need to strengthen cooperation between prevention inspectors and the “mahalla seven” was also highlighted.

In the transport sector, officials discussed the construction of a new international airport costing US$300 million and a 23.5-kilometre road connecting it to the city. They were also tasked with improving railway stations, parking facilities, lighting and service quality.

To improve access to railway stations and strengthen transport links between cities and districts across the region, an additional 120 buses are planned. The meeting also addressed public transport development and the landscaping of surrounding areas.

Authorities plan to expand green spaces in line with Bukhara’s climatic conditions. Alongside planting trees and shrubs, the plans include installing the necessary irrigation and drainage systems.

Preparations for the international events are also expected to accelerate efforts to attract investment and develop industrial cooperation. Proposals were discussed for producing higher value-added goods, developing transport, logistics and exports, implementing renewable energy projects, and building infrastructure for electricity transmission and storage.

The president also instructed officials to give visitors a broader view of Bukhara, showcasing not only its historical and cultural heritage and tourist attractions but also modern enterprises, achievements in agriculture, handicrafts and services. The programme introducing the region is also expected to highlight progress in job creation, raising household incomes, and developing healthcare and culture.

Concluding the meeting, Mirziyoyev stressed that the infrastructure created for the events should continue to benefit residents of the region after they have ended. Those responsible were instructed to monitor progress on the ground, address emerging problems promptly and ensure coordination across all preparations.
