Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A total of 577,700 teachers were working in Uzbekistan’s general secondary education institutions at the beginning of the 2025/2026 academic year, excluding external part-time teachers, according to the National Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.
The number of teachers increased by 12,800, or 2.3%, compared with the previous year.
Women accounted for 72.5% of the total, or 418,800 teachers, while men made up 27.5%, or 158,900 teachers.
Samarkand and Kashkadarya regions recorded the largest numbers of teachers, with 65,100 each. They were followed by Ferghana Region with 60,600 teachers and Surkhandarya Region with 52,300.
Andijan Region had 46,300 teachers, Namangan Region 42,600, the Republic of Karakalpakstan 40,700 and Tashkent Region 40,200.
Khorezm Region had 35,100 teachers, Tashkent 34,100 and Bukhara Region 33,400.
Jizzakh Region had 25,700 teachers, Navoi Region 22,300 and Syrdarya Region 14,200.
The statistics were published ahead of Teachers’ and Mentors’ Day, which is celebrated in Uzbekistan on 1 October.
