Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan has discussed further implementation of international food safety requirements and measures to strengthen the export potential of local producers.
The issues were discussed by Azizbek Urunov, chairman of the Food Safety Committee, and Elena Butrimova, head of the International Trade Centre’s (ITC) cooperation programme with Eastern European and Central Asian countries.
One of the key areas of cooperation identified by the sides was the implementation of the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system at enterprises, as well as other international food safety management systems.
The meeting noted that improving companies’ compliance with international standards should expand opportunities for Uzbek producers to enter foreign markets and increase their export potential.
The sides also discussed support for export-oriented food industry enterprises through the opportunities provided by the Ready4Trade Central Asia project, financed by the European Union.
Digitalisation was another topic discussed during the meeting.
As an example of ongoing international cooperation, the participants highlighted Uzbekistan’s experience in phytosanitary services, where electronic phytosanitary certificates are exchanged through the international IPPC ePhyto Solution system.
