Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Committee for Development of Competition and Consumer Protection has secured recalculations totaling 399.3 billion soums in favor of more than 11.7 million consumers from 2023 through July 2026.

The funds had been overcharged to consumers, the Committee for Development of Competition and Consumer Protection said.

During the period, the committee received 137,785 appeals from citizens concerning housing and utilities, transport services, trade and catering, communications, financial and social services, as well as advertising.

The committee registered 20,691 appeals in 2023, 30,070 in 2024 and 53,670 in 2025. Another 33,354 appeals were received in January-July 2026.

The largest share, 68,326 appeals, concerned housing and utilities and transport services. Another 39,397 appeals related to trade and catering, while 25,965 concerned communications, financial and social services.

According to the committee, the number of appeals increased by 45-78% annually. The agency attributed the trend not only to the scale of consumer rights issues, but also to greater access to protection mechanisms, public trust and citizen engagement.

The committee launched an electronic Consumer Appeal platform for submitting complaints. Over more than three and a half years, 116,105 appeals, or 86.7% of all submissions, were resolved positively.

Of these, 73% of appeals were upheld, legal explanations were provided to citizens in 25% of cases, and another 2% were referred to authorized government agencies.

In addition to handling individual appeals, the committee conducted inspections to protect the rights of an unspecified number of consumers. The inspections covered more than 20 areas, including utilities, medical and pharmaceutical services, trade and household services, telecommunications, insurance and financial services.

Following the inspections, identified violations were eliminated, while appropriate measures were taken against entities that had violated the law.

As a result of the committee’s work, recalculations totaling 399.3 billion soums were secured in favor of more than 11.7 million consumers.
