Belarus and Uzbekistan to expand cooperation on standards
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Belarus and Uzbekistan plan to intensify cooperation in technical regulation, including standardization and metrology. The issue was discussed by Elena Morgunova, chairwoman of Belarus’s State Committee for Standardization, and Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Belarus Nurriddin Mamajonov, the Belarusian agency’s press service said.
The State Committee for Standardization said relations between the two countries are developing as part of a strategic partnership. The countries have been tasked with increasing bilateral trade turnover to US$2 billion by 2030.
According to representatives of the agency, the development of technical regulation is directly important for trade and economic cooperation. Mamajonov said the sector was one of the foundations of interaction between the two countries.
During the meeting, the sides reviewed the results of existing cooperation and potential areas for further work. The regulatory framework for cooperation includes about 20 agreements.
Particular attention is expected to be paid to creating conditions for mutual supplies of goods, including products in trade-sensitive areas and promising product categories.
The sides also agreed to hold an online seminar on technical regulation with experts and business representatives from both countries. The event is linked to reforms of Uzbekistan’s technical regulation system. Participants will be able to receive information about the changes directly from specialists.
The meeting also addressed cooperation in training and professional development. The Uzbek side expressed interest in exchanging experience in metrology.
Morgunova said Belarus’s State Committee for Standardization was ready to support the development of cooperation and exchange expertise and practical experience.
She said intensifying interaction should contribute to the further development of trade, economic and industrial cooperation between the two countries.
