Uzbekistan, China Open Joint Green Energy Laboratory

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and China opened a joint research laboratory on green energy at the National Research Institute of Renewable Energy Sources under Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy on 22 July 2026.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy, the government of China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the Inner Mongolia University of Technology, as well as universities and research organizations.

Speakers at the event included First Deputy Minister of Energy Umid Mamadaminov, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Shi Guanghui, and Vice President of the Inner Mongolia University of Technology Professor Guo Hongfei.

They highlighted the importance of expanding scientific cooperation in renewable energy, introducing innovative technologies and training qualified specialists.

The laboratory was established under the Belt and Road Initiative through cooperation between the National Research Institute of Renewable Energy Sources under Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy and the Inner Mongolia University of Technology.

The facility is expected to conduct joint research in solar, wind and hydrogen energy, energy storage technologies, smart energy systems and artificial intelligence.

The project also provides for the establishment of modern laboratory facilities and the training of highly qualified personnel.

According to the organizers, the new research center is also intended to serve as a platform for demonstrating energy technologies in Central Asia, localizing advanced developments and further expanding scientific and innovation cooperation between Uzbekistan and China.
