Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have signed a contract for the development of the natural gas field at the Tut-Maidan block, located in the Afghan provinces of Jowzjan and Faryab.

The total investment for this project will amount to US$1 billion, to be invested over a period of 10 years. In the first year of project implementation, US$100 million is planned to be allocated.

Additionally, a 100 MW thermal power plant (TPP) will be constructed in Afghanistan during the first two years.

The contract signing took place in the presence of Taliban Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Ghani Baradar and Uzbekistan’s Special Representative to the President, Ismatulla Irgashev.
