Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting in Seoul with Kim Seong, President for Strategy at Hyundai Motor Group; Cho Sang-woon, Senior Vice President of Kia Motors; and Lee Young-bae, Chairman of the Board of Hyundai Rotem. The sides discussed expanding cooperation in the automotive and transport sectors, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan said.
Highly appreciating the contribution of the group’s companies to the development of the respective sectors in Uzbekistan, the participants discussed expanding production at the automotive cluster established in Jizzakh Region and increasing the localization share of automotive components.
Particular attention was paid to establishing full-cycle Kia vehicle production in Uzbekistan and developing exports. The meeting also focused on launching new models and a stamping plant, as well as prospects for organizing the production of electric and hybrid vehicles.
The first Hyundai Rotem high-speed trains have already begun operating on the Tashkent–Khiva route, cutting travel time by half. The meeting also discussed the possibility of additional supplies of the company’s trains.
In addition, the sides noted the importance of establishing a Hyundai Rotem service center in Uzbekistan and further localizing the production of components. The prospects for organizing the production of magnets for electric motors were also considered.
