Uzbekistan Discusses Tashkent Commercial Court Setup

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Discussions are underway in Uzbekistan regarding the creation of the Tashkent International Commercial Court as part of the Constitutional Law "On the Tashkent International Financial Centre," the Ministry of Justice reported.

Uzbek Justice Minister Akbar Tashkulov met on 4 September 2026 with Suma Chakrabarti, Advisor to the President of Uzbekistan on Economic Development, Effective Governance, and International Cooperation, to address the creation of the commercial court. The parties reviewed the formation of the necessary legal infrastructure under the financial center's governing constitutional law.

The meeting focused on developing commercial dispute resolution mechanisms and advancing the legal environment required for the operation of the international financial center. Special attention was given to expanding mediation, international arbitration, and other alternative dispute resolution pathways in Uzbekistan, alongside deepening cooperation with foreign experts and training qualified specialists in English law.

Participants noted significant growth in Uzbekistan's mediation sector. During the first half of 2026, the number of mediation agreements reached 18,411, representing a fourfold increase. Within judicial proceedings over the same period, 2,897 mediation agreements were concluded. Ministry officials stated these indicators reflect growing public trust in mediation and rising demand for the mechanism nationwide.

Following the talks, both parties agreed to maintain cooperation on establishing modern legal infrastructure for the Tashkent International Financial Centre. Future joint efforts will focus on forming international dispute resolution mechanisms, advancing mediation and arbitration, and training legal professionals skilled in English law.
