Uzbekistan’s Electric Car Imports Rise 1.7-Fold
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan imported US$1.103 billion worth of passenger cars in January-August 2026, up 72.6% from US$639.2 million in the same period last year, according to the Customs Committee of Uzbekistan.
Electric vehicles accounted for the largest share of passenger car imports. Their import value increased 71.5%, from US$358.3 million to US$614.4 million, while the number of vehicles imported rose 89.6%, from 28,920 to 54,826 units.
Imports of gasoline-powered vehicles increased 6.1% in value terms, from US$232.7 million to US$246.9 million. The number of gasoline vehicles imported rose 17.1%, from 11,163 to 13,070 units.
The largest relative increase was recorded in imports of hybrid vehicles powered by gasoline and electricity. Their value rose 5.2-fold, from US$46.1 million to US$240.0 million, while the number of vehicles increased 5.5-fold, from 2,023 to 11,130 units.
By contrast, imports of diesel-powered vehicles declined. Their value fell 29.1%, from US$2.1 million to US$1.5 million, while the number of imported vehicles dropped 78.0%, from 91 to 20 units.
